My latest story

Here's my latest story in the King County Bar Bulletin: UW Clinic Students Making a Difference. Has lots of errors and I assume something happened between the print and on-line edition...I mean, I NEVER mispel wurds :-)

Unconditional Love

This week's American Life story, Unconditional Love , was amazing and heartwarming. It certainly gives perspective to any parent who thinks they've either got it figured out (they don't) or who's in the worst situation (they're not). Take an hour out of your day to listen - it's worth it.

Another exciting night in the 'hood

Just as we were putting the kids to bed, heard sirens and a long screech, and saw a blue car streak past the window, ending with a crash. With about 8 patrol cars (Everett Police, Sno Cty Sherrif, and possibly Marysville Police), they talked a young woman out of her car, under gunpoint. Found drugs in her car and were already carrying a felony arrest warrant. As Calvin said, "Mommy, she's a bad girl." Here's the photos:

The view from our yard (she drove right into the yard of the brand new condos next door, hit the black van, and bounced back about 20 ft.)

Our car, looking back at the skid marks (running about a block and a half).

The view from the street. The red arrow is pointing to the car she was driving.

Kids in their PJs review the scene of the crime.

Another story

Had this story featured in the UW campus newspaper, UWeek. Professor Rodgers is awesome and so soft spoken that it's hard to believe he has really been at the forefront of environmental law. Such a nice guy!

The aftermath

We have been so lucky through this last storm, but some of our friends are still without power (going on day 6) and others have been told they will not have it back until Christmas. Here are some photos from the weekend:

A BIG WIND

Even after living through all of those windstorms in Idaho, this was by far the worst windstrom I've ever seen. We were very fortunate, though: we only lost power briefly and have two small shurbs down. However, others are not so lucky this morning. We'll post storm photos later today.

blogs and e-newsletters

Blogs are taking over my life! I have been working with our Dean to post messages to a blog while he's visiting Asia with the governor and UW president. See The Dean's Blog . Also, I've just distributed my third e-newsletter to our alumni. See eBriefs Autumn 2006.

law school on Fox News

I'm very excited that, after months of hard work, my first real news story out of the law school will air this weekend...nationally! And, you can "pooh-pooh" Fox News all you want, but the bottom line is that they are the most-watched news station in the country. I'll take that feather for my cap anytime.

The day nothing much changed?

Heard this author on NPR the other day. Thought the article was interesting: http://www.foreignpolicy.com/story/cms.php?story_id=3546

First blog

This is our first attempt at a blog. The purpose of this page is so that the Tomsics in Everett can help keep the Tomsics elsewhere, as well as Iretons, friends, etc., up-to-date on what's going on in our lives. Seemed easier than creating a web page.
